Original VAS 6154A VAS6154B Diagnostic Tester Kit VAG OBD Interface Support Latest ODIS Service & Engineering Software

 

VAS 6154A was replaced by the New VAS 6154B diagnostics interface in May 2023.

The VAS 6154A diagnostics interface, which has been in great demand and much needed, will have a successor – the VAS 6154B diagnostics interface – which will be available from CW 21. The reason for this revision, is that the Wi-Fi module had reached its end of life and will longer be available. This is because it was no longer possible to purchase the required chipsets in challenging market conditions. During the revision, a few technical improvements were also made to individual components, which will receive a new ASE number accordingly and have an index alteration. We are confident that we will now be able to resolve the backlog situation, which is unsatisfactory to all parties, by the end of the year.

Compared with its predecessor, there are the following changes between VAS 6154A and 6154B: 

The set:
The case set has no new functionalities, simply a different configuration. Due to the modified scope of delivery, it will now bear the designation VAS 6154B.

The Main Module is no different from the current unit. The main module VAS 6154A/1 will still have the A designation – for reasons of usability in workshops and to avoid unnecessary software adaptations and development costs that would have the corresponding impact on the price.

To reduce the price pressure, the VAS 6154/3 Y-USB cable and the VAS 6154/2 docking station has been removed from the scope of delivery and will only be available as accessories/replacement parts. We also believe that producing the docking station in such quantities and including it in the delivery, even though companies do not require it in these numbers, is not consistent with our understanding of sustainability.

Thanks to the various cost-saving measures, it was possible to almost fully compensate for the price increase for the new device, despite high prices for materials and improved individual components.

All of the components are backward-compatible with the VAS 6154A predecessor model.

The main module:
The VAS 6154A/1 main module retains its name but has a reinforced mini-USB socket.
The main module is now also available separately, in response to the requirements of the markets and
providing customers with greater flexibility when ordering. This means, for example, that they are not reliant
on the availability of all of the case set’s components in the event of any supply bottlenecks.

Wi-Fi module and USB module:
The VAS 6154/5A Wi-Fi module has been upgraded and therefore has an index alteration. This is because
a new chipset has been integrated, which ensures the functionality from ODIS Service V 23.0.0. ODIS
Service 23.0.0 is expected to be available from CW23. More detailed information can be found in the
HotNews of ODIS Service. See page 3 below.

The USB module also has an index alteration, changing to VAS 6154/4B. It now has a rugged USB
connector with nine pins, rather than seven. It can therefore be directly connected to the VAS 6150F,
meaning that it is no longer necessary to use the VAS 652 009 adapter with the VAS 6154B.

To connect old laptops – VAS 6105E or older – the VAS 652 011 adapter must be used.

In order to ensure the quickest possible distribution of the new diagnostics interfaces, they are undergoing
the necessary certification, and therefore also approval as part of the sales capability review, in three
batches.

ODIS application compatibility:
The new diagnostics interface VAS 6154B will be available shortly.
We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that the VAS 6154B diagnostics interface is only
compatible with ODIS Service version 23.0.0, which is currently planned to be released in CW23.
Also note, that ODIS Service versions 11.0.1 and older do not support the functionality of the VAS 6154B
diagnostics interface.
The new ODIS Service Version 23.0.0 will continue to support the previous diagnostics interfaces.

OEM PASS-THRU

Vehicle manufacturers have all taken their diagnostic software away from standalone diagnostic tools and onto their own web portals. This enables them to have a very secure way of controlling who and how anyone has access to their data and information.

Copy or clone tools were often used, but as the manufacturers portal became more sophisticated these clones will not work, the portals will only recognise either original or an approved pass-thru tool.

Infrastructure mode

In infrastructure mode, several network-capable devices can be connected together (network subscribers).
For a wireless network, a WLAN access point is required. This access point forms the connection to WLAN-ready subscribers.

Point-to-point connection

With point-to-point connection via a wireless network, VAS 6154 creates a radio network. VAS 6154 thereby adopts the role of a radio access point (Access Point). A direct connection is made between the diagnosis unit and the diagnosis interface VAS 6154. VAS 6154 is configured using the web-based user interface.
